GLOBALIZATION IN THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY

According to Riley (2009) globalization is a process where an increased proportion of economic, social and cultural activity is carried out across national borders.

In the 21st century, with the growing levels of globalization in hospitality industry, hotel companies will need to learn diverse management styles to survive and develop in environmental circumstances with high levels of uncertainty as well as understand the implication of future effects, both positive and negative of the changing environment in which they operate (Shrivastava, 2012).

Globalization has both positive and negative impacts on hospitality industry which are as follows;

Multilingual services-Due to globalization more and more people from different parts of the world are touring around the world. Hotels got benefit by this modernization but to maintain this travelling many hotels hire people who know different languages so that their customers feel comfortable and safe, for example a tour operations company based on French market will have to employ French translators if they operate out of a non-French speaking country (Puri,2012).

Increasing knowledge about different variety of foods-Because of this vast trend of globalization, more and more restaurants and hotels have different variety of food because you never know which people are coming from which part of the world. Everybody love food and when they see their own food  somewhere  they feel so relaxed, for example Chinese tourists travel all around the world and so big cities have “China Town”. These things attract Chinese people to go and visit these places which are far from china but yet very similar Chinese tradition (Puri, 2012).

Exposure  to different cultures-According to Stream (2011) due to globalization the managers of the hospitality industry are able to learn about different cultures-as they get to mingle with people from various walks of life-and thus, increase their knowledge.

Larger Market-Because of globalization the customer base has increased greatly. People travel not only for holidays, but business, health and various other purposes too. This has increased the market for the hospitality industry, which gets its major income is from international visitors (Stream,2011).

In conclusion the world is moving more and more  towards globalization, the hospitality industry  needs to communicate more quickly, operate more productively, offer their employees  greater opportunity and deliver their customers enhanced benefits.

ONE OF THE HOSPITABLE CITIES

PARIS (FRANCE)

Whether you opt to explore the historic, fashion-conscious, bourgeois, or bohemian and arty sides of Paris one thing is certain the city of Light will always enthrall. If your Parisian fantasy involves staying in a historic hotel with the smell of fresh-baked croissants gently rousing you in the morning, here some good news, you need not to be Ritz-rich to realize it.With more than1, 450 hotels, the City of Light gives visitors stylish options in all price ranges of hotels from five stars to a 1 star hotel.
A new wave of culinary confidence has been running through one of the world’s great food cities and spilling over both banks of the Seine.Whether cooking up grand-mere’s roast chicken and riz au lait or placing a whimsical hat of cotton candy atop wild-strawberry-and-rose ice cream, Paris chefs have been breaking free from the tyranny of tradition and following their passions.
When you are in Paris you have to explore the best sights, entertainment and shopping with their top choices and insider tips. The best sights that you can see in Paris are Ancient Cloitre Quartier, Centre Pompidou and Eiffel Tower to name a few. When it comes to entertainment, you haven’t seen Paris until you have seen the city at night. Throngs fill popular streets and the air fills with the melody of French conversation and the clinking of glasses. Parisians love to savor life together, they dine out, drink endless espressos, offer innumerable toasts and are often so reluctant to separate that they party all night. Nothing can push you into the current of Paris life faster than a few hours of shopping. Follow the example of Parisians who slow to a crawl as their eyes lock on a tempting display. Window-shopping is one of the city’s greatest spectator sports; the French call it leche-vitrine-literally, “licking the windows”-which is fitting because many of the displays look good enough to eat. As to what to buy the sky is the limit in terms of choices.

If you want to go on a vacation, consider Paris one of the most hospitable cities in the world, and you will never regret spending your money and time there. (www.fodors.com>Home>Destinations>Europe)
